About AAJJA

The Alumni Association of Sir J J College of Architecture, Mumbai

Sir J J College of Architecture is a century old institution imparting architectural education. Some of the senior most architects of the country have been the students of the college.

The need of an alumni association of the college has been felt time and again and over the years. Attempts were made to do so but without fruition. Class reunions held from time to time kept the spirit of alumni alive. The college has  at least seventy batches of living past students totally numbering appx. 3500.

It was only in the year 2010 that once again a group of past students took the initiative to form an alumni association and succeeded in forming the association as a charitable trust. The group who spearheaded the initiative included distinguished alumni from academic, professional as well as public forum.  It is a completely “Autonomous” body managed by a committee elected from among  members of the alumni association.

The members and alumni will get to revive their contacts with their classmates & contemporaries & indulge in nostalgic memories of their student days at the college through a database which will be available on the Website. AAJJA members will also get to share their experiences & expertise & showcase their works on the AAJJA website. They will be

able to participate in programs & projects organized by AAJJA, of such activities that interest them. They will be able to put their own profiles on the website.

The more resourceful alumni can contribute in the efforts to help students of the college both academically & financially, repaying thereby a debt to their ‘Alma Mater”. Young graduates can get guidance in every aspect of the profession from senior architects who are successful & respected by the fraternity of architects.

The association organized a first ever “All Alumni Meet” at the college campus on Sunday, 20th January2013, during which past students from batches as early as 1950 to 2012 attended. It was a unique mix of past students, young and old, experienced and raw, belonging to our age old institution. They came from all over India and abroad, some 196 in all. For all of us it was a memorable event. The function was chaired by Shri. Rajav Velukar,  Vice chancellor of Mumbai University.

To mark the hundredth anniversary of our college, the alumni association organized a grand “Centenary Celebration” event on 14th December 2013 on the college premises. It was attended by nearly 1300 people including past students, distinguished professors, invited dignitaries, students & faculty of the college & sponsors. Among the dignitaries were, Shri. Uday Gaddkari, President of Council Of architecture-New Delhi, Vice Chancellor  of Mumbai University, Shri. Velukar & guest of honour- Sir Jamshetji Jejeebhoy-8th Baronet- the great………… great grand son of Sir. Jamshetji Jejeebhoy, the first who helped found the JJ Arts Campus back in 1857.

Distinguished architect & Educator Mr. Christopher Benninger, was the keynote speaker.

The feature of a Design wall highlighting the works of practicing JJ alumni and another feature of alumni/student musical orchestra “Awaaz” proved  popular.

In the month of December 2014 the third alumni convention was held at college. Around 186 alumni participated. Design Wall & Awwaz were featured again on popular demand.

The alumni association has various academic & social programs planned. To implement them successfully it is necessary to have adequate manpower. To that end the association has been making

efforts to contact alumni & make them members of AAJJA. The response has been positive and encouraging.

Alumni desirous of joining the alumni association can register themselves at  “Registration”.
